Choosing Mashup Community Development
Elmarie Roberts, HR Director at Michelin, chose to put forward Mashup Community Development, an NPO that embodies the very essence of positive change within a community. Explaining her choice, Elmarie said, “I nominated Mashup because I wholeheartedly believe in the extraordinary impact of community-driven efforts. Mashup's unwavering commitment to fostering change at the local level deeply resonates with me. Their core activities, such as providing skills development and offering entrepreneurship programmes, are truly making a tangible difference in our community.”
Elmarie's endorsement of Mashup extends beyond her personal support. She passionately articulated her hope for more companies to follow Michelin's example and step forward to support NPOs. "I also hope that our nomination of Mashup serves as an inspiration for other companies to actively engage with and uplift non-profit organisations,” she said. "When businesses come together to support NPOs, we can collectively create a ripple effect of positive change that extends far beyond what any one entity could achieve alone. This is the kind of collaborative effort that can truly transform communities and society at large for the better.”
A significant contribution
Mashup will be receiving R60 000 from Michelin. In response to this donation, Mashup’s director, Tracy Dennis, said, "We are immensely grateful to Michelin for their generous support. This contribution will significantly enhance our programmes and allow us to reach even more individuals in need.” Mashup will put the donation toward their garden initiative, known as EcoFusion, which embodies the profound ethos underpinning their youth centre's ecosystem project.
This evocative name symbolises the harmonious fusion of ecological sustainability, personal growth, and community advancement. Rooted in the mantra "where nature meets opportunity," EcoFusion encapsulates the project's core essence: it underscores that the garden transcends mere cultivation of plants, it is a fertile ground for nurturing prospects among youth and the broader community. By combining nature with opportunity, the project aims to create a space that enriches lives and strengthens the community’s connection to the environment.
