Michelin Cup 2018

400m Xtreme Raceway

Round 2 - Completed

Drag racing in a Michelin Cup ZA context: A chance for some of the bigger and faster cars to pull ahead and get some points on the board before having to try navigate skidpans and short track sessions. For this second round of the 2018 season, the MCZA entrants headed to the two-lane strip that is Xtreme Raceway.

The venue is located a hundred and something kilometres out of Jo'burg on the outskirts of the bustling metropolis of Bronkhorstspruit and has a surprisingly easy and relaxing drive there and back with smooth roads and a lack of visible policing - you know, for when you accidentally change lanes without indicating... The organisers are a great bunch, and the venue also makes sure to have nice and new (and clean) toilets for visitors to use, along with a few vendors selling food and drink - there's not much chance of having a kak time at the drag strip unless your car isn't performing like you want, and even then you'll have a good day out. With the wide field of entrants in this year's MCZA the 400m times on the drag stip would vary wildly with the slowest of the day being Ryan van Tonder's boggo Fiat Uno with a blitz-vinnig time of 19.21-seconds, up to the fastest time of the day from Haydn Von Imhof's Audi RS7 that impressed EVRYONE with consistent mid 11-second passes, the best of which being 11.47-seconds. Last year is it was the powerful Subarus that ruled the track, but the Japanese metal simply could not catch that German tank this time round. Chett Meyer was closest with a run of 11.89, still mightily impressive! The rest of the results have already been posted, peruse the page and you'll find them. T

he event ran as smooth as an event could possibly run, the MCZA team ensured things flowed perfectly and this meant that all 100 entrants managed to get in a decent amount of runs. Most of the cars on the entry list prefer top play on track, and it's the next round at Zwartkops Raceway where it's not all about horsepower which means some of the less powerful cars with a good setup can score points. That said, it will be hard to catch that RS7 there too. We'll see you on the 25th for Round 3 of the Michelin Cup ZA series.
